Solar Energy
Less than 0.1% of today’s energy generation comes directly from sun energy whilst more energy from the sun strikes the earth in one hour than is consumed globally in one year.
Limited availability of fossil fuel resources inevitably increases the need for renewable energy sources on a daily basis. Experts forecast that 10% of the total energy demand in 2050 will be met from Solar Energy and this figure could be 50% in 2100.
90% of today’s solar cells are silicon based. The cost of solar electricity provided by crystalline silicon (c-Si) technology is closing the gap with grid parity every year and therefore solar electricity will be less dependent on subsidies in the forthcoming years.
There are two distinct measures for c-Si Solar cells, the Cost of Energy ($/Watt) and Power Density (Efficiency) of the cell (Watt/m^2).
Morgan AM&T is helping to improve both measures for c-Si Solar cells with their state to the art material technology. Our specifically designed Solar Grade Insulation materials offer a superior Thermal Insulation to competitive materials and therefore significantly reduce the electricity demand in the manufacture of the silicon base material – therefore directly influencing the $/Watt ratio.
Morgan Solar Grade Insulation materials show a higher purity and less particle generation in use; these have proven to directly impact the quality of the silicon manufactured. The higher quality silicon produced influences the cell efficiencies that the final solar cells can achieve. Achieving higher cell efficiency means both a reduction of cost of energy as well as an improved power density.
Finally, Morgan AM&T is offering a wide range of innovative, engineered solutions. Examples include special foil coating of insulation to increase life time and improve maintenance, and design solutions for the complete furnace interiors that enable rapid and seamless assembly and maintenance of the furnaces. These improve the overall cost of ownership of using our materials.
By aligning material and product developments with the technology roadmaps of C-Si Solar Cell Manufactures, Morgan AM&T is offering enabling technology for the generations to come.
